RYCC extend lead at top of indoor cricket league

Date published: 19 February 2009

The fifth week of the British Asian Sports & Arts Foundation indoor cricket league saw RYCC continue their impressive start, winning their fifth consecutive game.

Excellent batting from Nawazish, 32, and Shaqeel, 36 not out, with Qaiser 16 not out, laid a good platform and allow RYCC to build a total of 119 runs. For opponents Unique, their opening bowler Adeel is becoming one of the league's star bowlers with his pace and swing. He took 2 for 12, while Numaan was the mainstay of Unique innings with 28 but they fell short of the RYCC total by 22 runs.

8 Stars won their third consecutive game against a lacklustre Punjab side who conceded 38 extras in the 8 Stars total of 138.

Batting first 8 Stars Saleem made a well composed 36 not out with good support from Shakir, 27, and Tariq, 15 not out. Punjab were never in the hunt and only reached 95. The pick of the bowlers for 8 Stars was Tayab with 2-15, Sohail with 2-20 and Saleem finishing off the innings to take 2-4.

Rochdalians edged out Allstars, needing four runs from the last over they came home with three balls to spare.

Batting first Allstars could muster only 77 runs thanks to Asif making a solid 26 with good support from Imran 20.

To their credit they took the game to Dalians but the score was never enough. A Fine all-round display by Dalians' Faisal 3-9 with the ball and 19 with the bat saw them home.

In the Legends League, Seniors made an excellent 105 from their 10 overs with a hard hitting 31 from Nawaaz Ali and good support from Taz with 12.

For Legends Nado made useful 17, not bad for a player who had not touched a bat in 10 years, but Seniors came out comfortable winners, winning by 28 runs.

League leaders Masters beat Veterans with ease to maintain top spot.
