Dale thank supporters

Date published: 04 March 2008

Rochdale Football Club has thanked supporters who took guests with them to Spotland on Saturday. The result didn't go Dale's way hence guests may not therefore have enjoyed their day out at Spotland as much as the club would have hoped, but that should not detract from the efforts of so many.

The attendance on the day was disappointing however. When the club embarked on the recent series of initiatives, it was as much to learn about the club by exploring who and what they can achieve through the turnstiles. The three elements they wanted to explore were:

1. The under 12 market during school holidays.
2. The Adult market on a Saturday.
3. The Adult market on a Sunday when there is no other games being played.

A club spokesman said: "So far two questions have been answered, and the club will continue to publicise the Accrington Stanley game as much as we can with your help and the Match day poster.

"We have clearly seen so far though, a need to catch them early and the club will redouble its efforts in that direction. Indeed this season has seen pupils at primary schools in the Borough snapping up the opportunity to become ball boys and girls at Spotland. This is another new initiative aimed at attracting younger supporters to the club, whereby pupisl at a different school has been invited to take on the role of ball boys/girls on Saturday afternoon's and the response so far has been superb.

"This and other Under 12's Go Free matches may see us slowly increase our support amongst the younger ranks which in the long term should safeguard the club.

"However, there is still the 'Raise the Roof' campaign for the game against Accrington Stanley.

"We appreciate the poor run of home form, so we want to make Spotland loud and proud on Sunday 16 March. Any season ticket holder can switch ends on the day, and prices at the WMG end are £10 (£3 concessions).

"Once more we're asking for your assistance. You've helped us with the pitch and the Fan Drive. Now we want you to give the team a lift!"
