Committee of all the talents names man-of-the-match

Date published: 25 September 2007

Allen Brett, a director of the Co-operative Group, used a ‘committee of all the talents’ to choose David Perkins as ‘man-of-the-match’ at Saturday’s Rochdale versus Macclesfield game.

Councillor Brett said: “When the Coop sponsor a Rochdale match I always ask people in our group to decide who the man of the match is and this time it included George Danczuk, the 10-year-old son of Simon Danczuk, Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, who was adamant it should be David Perkins. I have to say, we all agreed with him, David was the most consistent player and he never stopped running, he was all over the pitch working hard for Rochdale”.

Councillor Brett continued: “United Cooperatives and The Cooperative Group merged two months ago and I’m pleased to say we are continuing to be very involved at Spotland, our relationship goes back many years.”

Simon Danczuk said: “My son George really enjoyed the match and was thrilled to meet David Perkins afterwards, he thinks he’s a great player. I thought Rochdale were by far the stronger side on Saturday and with just a bit more effort we could have had a decent win. As a season ticket holder I get to as many home matches as possible. The Club is a real asset for our town; they really help take Rochdale forward.”
