Milnrow maintain top spot

Date published: 14 October 2008

Milnrow entertained Blackpool Scorpions on Saturday aiming to maintain their top of the table position and they duly obliged.

A tentative opening period, in which the locals always looked to be the better team, was finally broken when Jopson crashed over wide out after 10 minutes. This seemed to settle Milnrow down and a well rehearsed set move directly from the scrum sent flying winger Power over for the first of his three tries of the day.

Just before half time the class of Neil Connolly was evident as he sliced through the visiting defence and fed supporting full back Hillen for a try converted by Agg and a lead of 14-0 at the break.

The second period started in a very scrappy manner, littered with handling errors before another set move from the base of the scrum involving Neil Connolly, Gavin Buckley and Ben Butterworth was finished by Connolly, Agg adding the extras.

Power added his second after good approach work by Jopson and Ahmed and then Neil Connolly sidestepped and dummied his way through for his second try, enhanced by Agg.
Almost directly from the kick off Hillen launched a length of the field attack handing on to Kingsley who fed Butterworth for a try, Agg again added the conversion.

It was all Milnrow now and the biggest cheer of the day was reserved for the next try when Ahmed used his strength to force his way over, Agg converted. The scoring was completed with Power's hat trick for a final score of 46-0.

Men of the match awards went overwhelmingly to Neil Connolly followed by Atkinson and Hillen.
