Broadway continue to set the pace in the Sunday Football League
Date published: 12 November 2007
Broadway Celtic continued their unbeaten season in the Newbold Tyres Premier Division of the Rochdale amp; District Sunday Football League beating Plough 5-2 to go seven points clear at the top of the table, though second place Copperpot do have two games in hand.
Newly promoted Broadway have without doubt taken the established premiership clubs by surprise with their well organised and disciplined football and next Sunday sees what could be a very significant match in deciding where the title ends up this season with Broadway taking on second place, and last year's champions, Copperpot.
The only other game in the division brought no real surprise as Milton beat Catholic Club.
In the Rochdale Online First Division leaders Brunswick went down to a shock 5-1 defeat at FC Dale, who remain in fourth place and goal difference from Turks Head who also won away at Italia.
The top of the table clash between Wardleworth and FC Bernard ran to form with both teams finding scoring opportunities hard to come by, the game ending with each finding the net just the once. The draw was sufficient to keep FC Bernard in second place, however, only on goal difference as third placed Whitworth Valley joined them on nineteen points courtesy of their win over Boundary Park.
Down at the bottom, Sun Old Boys, are having a difficult first season in the league and were on the end of a rout as Rochdale Nomads hit double figures putting ten past the hapless Old Boys keeper!
Royal Exchange continued the excellent form that has seen them win seven of their eight games this season in the Richard Martin Financial Services Third Division. Exchange saw off a previously in form Red Lion in a good competitive game that they controlled in midfield and come on top scoring five and conceding two. Evans scored two of the Exchange goals, Fielding also scored two and Ellidge the other goal. With Woolworth’s surprising held to a draw by third bottom Old Bulls Head, the win sent Exchange to the top of the table with Woolworths dropping to second.
Down at the bottom Woodhouse recorded only their second win of the season pulling off a surprise against Blue Ball, however, they remain firmly rooted second bottom with only Crown amp; Shuttle, who have yet to record a win this season, and who were beat by third placed Broadway Celtic Reserves, beneath them.
