Rugby League: Hornets land Shelford

Date published: 21 June 2019

Rochdale Hornets have signed Swinton Lions’ and former Wigan prop Kyle Shelford in a swap deal that sees Scott Moore head in the opposite direction.

Shelford, the son of respected former New Zealand and Wigan front rower Adrian, has signed until the end of the 2019 season.

He made his Super League debut against Wakefield in 2016 and also featured once for Swinton that year before spending time at Workington in 2017.

Shelford re-joined the Lions for the 2018 campaign and played 30 times, scoring five tries, and has featured a further 15 times this season, touching down once.

Hornets coach Matt Calland said: “Kyle is a young front rower at just 22 who has a great attitude and is very athletic.

“He has come through some very good systems as a junior at Wigan, and is willing to work hard and improve his game.

“He also comes from a great pedigree as the son of Adrian, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Hooker Moore played 15 times for Hornets after joining during the close season, and leaves with the club’s best wishes for the future.
