Grimsby interest in Dale trialist
Date published: 17 July 2008
Grimsby Town manager Alan Buckley is monitoring the availability of Simon Heslop, who is currently on trial with Rochdale from Barnsley.
Port Vale are also in the race to sign the midfielder, who joined the Dale team on their pre-season tour in Spain.
The 21-year old is yet to play for Barnsley and he spent the majority of last season on loan at Halifax Town.
Grimsby boss Buckley told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I have spoken to Simon (Davey, Barnsley boss) about him. He's gone away with Rochdale but I've told Barnsley to keep me in the loop about his future.
"Simon told me that Port Vale are also interested so we'll wait and see what happens when he's back."
Heslop played a part in both of Dale's games in Spain, against Peterborough and Marbella and Keith Hill is apparently interested in loaning the player on a long term basis.
