Success outclass Broadway in the Alan Haughton Trophy

Date published: 09 March 2008

The last two games between Success and Broadway have resulted in one win each, however, with Success winning the last quite easily they were confident of winning this game.

Success fielded a weakened side due to injuries and work commitments, but with strength in depth an important part of their squad, were still able to put out a strong team out.

Broadway, playing with the wind in their favour, could have gone one up within a matter of minutes but for a smart save from Watson in the Success goal. However, with Jackson and Hayes running the show in midfield supported by a strong defence, Success were in charge and it looked a case only of when Success would score, not if.

Harris went close for Success before they finally made the breakthrough, Matt Jackson scoring from a Hayes corner after 30 minutes.

With Jackson and Hayes in complete control, shots were raining in at the Broadway goal and it was only superb work by the Broadway keeper that kept them in the game.

Broadway came out of the blocks sharply in the second half and levelled the score within two minutes of the restart when Jordan Scholes nipped in to score. Jordan had a chance to put Broadway in front just a couple of minutes later, foiled only by a smart save by Watson

That was as good as it got for Broadway as Success took control again, with Jackson and Hayes head and shoulders above the rest on show - their interplay a joy to watch.

An injury to Mason saw Carl Dawood come on and within two minutes he made his mark winning his side a penalty when he was fouled in the area. Jackson stepped up and slammed it home with aplomb.

Though in complete control, and cruising, Success could not afford to be complacent and they continued to search for the third goal that would put the game beyond Broadway's reach. They eventually did so in the final minutes as  Jackson completed his hat-trick, hitting home a free kick into the top corner from 25 yards.

Success manager Phil Crowther said: "Jackson's third in the final minutes was yet another contender for goal of the season".
