Jude English reaches National School Boxing Finals

Date published: 03 June 2016

13-year-old Hamer amateur boxer Jude English has reached the National School Girl/Boy Boxing Finals for the second year running after an enthralling victory over Tayla Rushton of Willenhall ABC at Croxteth Leisure Centre, Liverpool.

Right from the first bell English stormed out of her corner and set about her opponent with fast combinations and a swift jab to force Rushton back onto the ropes.

The Hamer girl's punching were measured and precise and every time they landed they continually drove her opponent's head back to take the first round.

English continued with her aggressive approach in the second round but to be fair Rushton came out equally determined to get back into the contest. It was an extremely tough and competitive round with both girls landing hard punches, but it was English who continually finished the exchanges with the last telling punch to impress the judges.

Before the third and last round English was told by her coach Steven Connellan to press home the advantage and surge forward with fast combinations and finish with a solid right hand.

The bell rang and to the delight of the crowd both girls met in the middle of the ring to unload forceful punches, but yet again it was the Hamer girl who was the last to land her strong, right hand with unyielding determination to take the fight and to progress into the National Finals.
