Busy weekend at Redbrook

Date published: 05 May 2016

The J.W. Lees Wood Cup competition returns to Redbrook on Sunday when Rochdale Cricket Club are scheduled entertain Micklehurst.

The shake-up of league cricket in the region saw the bulk of  teams in the Central Lancashire and Saddleworth Leagues form the new Pennine League and retain all the cup competitions.

Last season, Rochdale narrowly lost in the Wood Cup semi-final and captain Jon Henderson is hoping that the disappointment from that game will help inspire his men to another good run.

The only significant change from last year’s squad is new professional Will Bosisto who plays for Western Australia, and Barbadian Marradon Bend who has returned for a second season.

Micklehurst, who played in the Saddleworth League last season, will be making their first appearance in the Wood Cup and will be striving to cause an upset against their Premiership rivals, but if the game goes to form Rochdale should run our winners.

The match starts at 1.00pm

On Saturday its league action for Rochdale when another former Saddleworth League outfit, Austerlands, are the visitors.

Rochdaale enjoyed a comfortable victory over Saddleworth in their opener a fortnight ago and will be hoping to build on that victory in which both Bosisto and Bend made half centuries.

The match starts at 1.30pm.
