Mayfield preview

Date published: 05 May 2016

Wigan St Pat's are Saturday’s visitors to the Mayfield Sports Centre for the Kingstone Press NCL Premier Division clash.

Pat's have had a good start to the season so far with four wins from six leaving them in third spot.

Mayfield have failed to live up to the promise of last season with just one win from their four starts.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth will be feeling the frustration knowing that they have the quality out there on the field but they have just not clicked into gear yet.

Saturday would be the ideal time for them to hit form and send a message to the rest of the league by beating St Pat's.

Butterworth said: “Although we have only one win to our name in the league so far, a quick look at the results will show that we have only lost by a maximum of four points in our three defeats, and that is while we have not been playing well. These have all been games we could and indeed should have won. It’s no good crying over what should have been, those games have gone so it’s up to us to go out and play the rugby we know we are capable of and secure the two points.”

In the NWML Dave Harmer will be hoping for a better turn out than a fortnight ago as he prepares his team to face Pilkington Recs, also at home.

All being well the first team should have players returning and that will make others available for this game. After two good wins against the Leigh sides the team seems to have run out of steam.

Harmer knows his side is capable of doing better and will hope to push on and take the points from Pilkington.
