Dagme Tesfaye wins by unanimous decision

Date published: 11 April 2016

Dagme Tesfaye, 15, fought his first ever contest for Hamer Boxing Club at Stockport College on Friday 1 April and beat Tom Sharkey of Penrith Elite Boxing Club by unanimous decision in a cracking bout.

Sharkey used good skills to keep Tesfaye at bay while landing some crisp and telling punches until out of the blue the Rochdale boxer unleashed a terrific right hand punch that sent Sharkey to the canvas.

The crowd was stunned into silence as Sharkey climbed back to his feet on shaky legs and, after he was administered a standing eight count by the referee, was allowed to continue.

Tesfaye immediately set about Sharkey and forced him around the ring but he was unable to connect with another telling blow.

In both rounds two and round three Sharkey showed too much respect for Tesfaye's right hand and the Hamer boxer bullied his opponent around the ring to take the win by unanimous decision.

Tesfaye lost his second contest to the more experienced Bailey Gargner of Eccles Boxing School at Club 147 on Manchester Road, Walkden.
