Hornets face York in the quarter-finals of the iPro Sport Cup

Date published: 01 April 2016

Rochdale Hornets welcome York City Knights to Spotland Stadium on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the iPro Sport Cup.

Both sides go into the game unbeaten in 2016, with the Hornets currently on a seven game winning run following their 42-16 triumph over North Wales Crusaders on Good Friday.

The Knights were also victorious last week, as they were comfortable winners away to Doncaster 46-16, a club who York have raided over the off-season.

Richard Wilkinson, Russ Spiers, Danny Nicklas, Brett Waller and Mike Emmett have all made the switch from the Dons and have made a good start at their new club.

In the first round of the competition the Hornets toughed it out away to Barrow Raiders in terrible conditions, coming out on top 14-4 winners.

York booked their place in the last eight with a 24-4 victory over Hunslet Hawks, a team which Alan Kilshaw’s men defeated on the opening day of the league season.

The game will mark Paul Crook’s 150th appearance for the club, with the number six currently sitting top of the goal kicking charts.

He was impressive in the victory over Crusaders last week, crossing for two tries in the win over their rivals.

These two sides last met was at Featherstone Rovers’ Big Fellas Stadium, as York blew away the visitors in the first-half before hanging on to see out the victory in the second period.

After opening up a 30-12 half-time lead, Rochdale rallied to go within 10 points of their opponents, but a late Ben Dent try sealed a 34-20 win for his side.

On that day there were tries for Danny Yates, Alex Trumper and dual-registered pair Matty Dawson and Jack Ashworth.

James Tilley and Dale Bloomfield are unavailable after picking up knocks, and a couple of players will undergo late fitness checks before Alan Kilshaw names his 17 for Sunday.
