Coventry Bears 16 - 58 Rochdale Hornets

Date published: 13 March 2016

Rochdale Hornets, resplendent in their alternative amber and black kit, completely outclassed Coventry Bears in the first half and whilst Bears improved in the second half, Hornets remained in control and recorded a comprehensive victory.

In glorious sunshine and ideal conditions for rugby league Hornets were quick off the mark. The second of two sets on the Bears' line saw Chris Riley nip in for the opening try.

Jo Taria soon doubled the Hornets lead having made the most of a Ben Moores break to score out wide.

It wasn't long before Danny Yates carved through the Bears defence to score after a crisp passing move.

With only a quarter of an hour played Hornets were dominating, already 14 points to the good. However, it took a further ten minutes before the scorer was troubled again, this time an easy walk in for Jordan Case. Crook adding the extras.

Yates had his second try of the game following a good break by Riley. Crook with the conversion.

With half time approaching, Hornets man-of-the-match Jo Taria blasted through the Bears defence to cross the line. Crook again successful with the kick.

Half Time: Coventry Bears 0 - 32 Rochdale Hornets

Hornets could have been forgiven if they had let up at the start of the second half but they took up where they had left off keeping the pressure on and it paid off as Taria completed his hat-trick via a combination of strength and footwork.

Jordan Case added his second try of the game to put Hornets forty in front before Bears finally got on the scoreboard - Richie Hughes taking advantage of a scrappy period of play after several long stoppages.

Riley got his second try of the game scoring under the posts, Crook adding the two.

Hornets eased off the throttle a little and Matt Reid took advantage reacted quickest to a bobbling ball to go over in the corner for Bears' second try. A very good kick from the touch line saw the conversion sail over successfully.

Into the closing ten minutes and a good ball from Wayne English put Corey Lee away on the half way line and he outpaced the cover to score. The conversion was successful.

With the clock ticking the final minutes down Hornets went to sleep and allowed Hughes to dive over for his second and Bears third. They added the two to take their tally to 16 points.

There was still time right on the hooter for Wayne English to get on the score sheet. Crook converted.
