Students create adverts for Rochdale AFC

Date published: 07 March 2016

A team of creative media students from Hopwood Hall College have been creating a corporate video and radio adverts for Rochdale AFC.

One of the units, which the second year creative media students study, is called ‘Corporate and Promotional Video’. The College likes to set its students up with a ‘real world’ client where possible and so that’s when they contacted the club.

Frances Fielding, the club’s Sales and Marketing Manager, said she would like the students’ help; she asked them to make a video and radio adverts that promote commercial opportunities for local businesses at the club, such as official match sponsorship and corporate hospitality boxes.

So, ‘Switch It Media’ (which is what the group of students call themselves) took on different roles: Joshua Lawless, 17 from Chadderton was Director, Katie Maguire,19 from Norden was Producer and Mark Buji, 21 from Rochdale was the Editor.

They started filming last month, including taking footage at recent match days against Crewe and Sheffield United.

James Shenton, media tutor, said: “This has been a really exciting opportunity for the creative media students at Hopwood Hall. They get the chance to work independently and professionally with a real world client. For Rochdale AFC and Frances to provide us with this experience is amazing.”

Frances Fielding said: “The students have been an absolute pleasure to work with, they have been professional and polite and we have had great fun making the video.

"It has been fantastic to have this opportunity to work with the Media Department at Hopwood Hall College and we can’t wait to see the end result.

"The video will be used as a promotional tool to help publicise the commercial opportunities available at Rochdale AFC to local businesses.”
