Frank Myler honoured

Date published: 05 March 2016

Heroes of Hornets All Time XIII member Chris Churm and Rochdale Hornets Chairman Mark Wynn this week presented the legendary Hornets Coach Frank Myler with a commemorative 'Inspired by Heroes' jersey and medals to mark his induction into the position of greatest ever Rochdale Hornets Head Coach as selected by Hornets fans.

Chris Churm organised the presentation to Frank after liaising with Frank's great friend 'Big' Jim Mills, the former Widnes, Wales, North Sydney and Great Britain forward.

Chris and Mark drove over to Widnes to meet with Frank and his friends at Widnes Golf Club where Frank is a well-respected and long serving member. As you enter the foyer at the club, framed photographs and a citation to Frank adorn the walls.

Frank wished to pass on his sincere gratitude to all the Hornets fans who had voted for him and to thank Chris and Mark for making the effort to come and present it to him.

As a thank you to Jim Mills for his assistance in helping to arrange the presentation, Chris Churm had written a poem entitled "Big Jim". Chris then recited the poem to Jim, Frank and their friends. It went down a storm!

After some great stories of teams and players past, Mark and Chris made their way back to Rochdale genuinely humbled by the reception they received, and how well regarded the Hornets are and what a great idea Heroes of Hornets is.

By coincidence Inosi Toga, brother of Apisai, contacted Jim Stringer from the Hornets Heritage Committee to inform him that Apisai's medal had arrived and that he was taking it to Fiji to show their older brother, Sela Toga, it. The medal was also going to be used as a show piece at a rugby sevens event Inosi was hoping to relaunch on the islands in April.
