Hollinwood 0 - 60 Mayfield
Date published: 22 February 2016
Mayfield eased through to the semi-final of the Oldham Standard Cup on Saturday with a comfortable 60 - 0 victory over Hollinwood.
Playing in atrocious conditions it took Mayfield less than a minute to cross the whitewash and it was all downhill from there for their opponents.
The game was an opportunity for coaches Calland and Butterworth to run the rule over some of the fringe players as well as giving some of the more experienced a final run out before the all-important game against neighbours Hornets next week.
There were some useful performances but the weather was the real winner on the day, stopping Mayfield playing their usual style of open rugby.
The tries came thick and fast with Rob Kershaw, Nick Hargreaves, Gaz Ellison, Komai Nualamatua and Rhys Carruth all grabbing braces.
Paul Hancock at hooker had an outstanding game in his return after a couple of years out also standing out was wily old campaigner Neil Connely who's incisive play and pin point passing created the gap on more than one occasion.
Connelly and Hancock shared the man-of-the-match award.
