Usman Shaukat keeps unbeaten record

Date published: 22 February 2016

Usman Shaukat of Queensway ABC kept his unbeaten record when he travelled down the Vulcan ABC show in Hull last Friday (19 February).

Shaukat was up against another local fighter in Ben Smalley of Team Greaves.

In the first round Shaukatn started well pushing forward using his sharp head movement to avoid Smalley's shots, and landing a few good hooks of his own.

The second round was a lot closer with Smalley landing some powerful shots, which made Shaukat realise he was in with a very strong boxer and he had to stay tight after his attacks.

The third round was close with both boxers giving it their all.

Shaukat got the benefit of a split decision after the judges took a few minutes to get the result together.

Coaches John Finnerty and Tim Malkin said: “It went in our favour because of the quality of Usman's shots that landed.

“It was by far his best performance despite coming into the bout with a few injuries but that's combat sport for you. These kids train hard so from time to time they pick up injuries that cause their run up to a bout to be slightly less than perfect.”
