Textile art workshop

Date published: 23 May 2012

A textile art workshop took place at Langley Children’s Centre for a group of young parents who live in Middleton.

Parents produced a banner (pictured), which will be displayed in Langley Library, where they were encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings about being a young parent in the local community.

The group worked with artist Jo Gornall who demonstrated different techniques of felting which the parents used to produce the work. A couple of parents also wrote a poem about what it is like to be a young mum.

The project was part of a multicultural arts project which aims to get young people involved in art and music.

Gill Lowe, Community Development Worker at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “I am really proud of the parents who took part in this project. They have learnt a number of new skills and have produced a fantastic banner that will be displayed in the library for all to see.”
