A 23-year-old man from Middleton has died in Ibiza after falling from the balcony of a third floor apartment.

Samuel McCaughey died in a fall on Friday (29 July) in the San Antonio coastal resort. It is not clear what led to his fall.

Tributes for Mr McCaughey have been paid on the social networking site, Facebook.

His brother, Joel McCaughey, posted: “R.I.P big bruv. Staying strong cos I know its what you want, you don't understand how much I love you and will miss you, always looked up to you!”

Hayley Carty, wrote: “Still can't believe your gone Sam, you were the nicest person ever and everyone whose met or knows you thinks the world of you. Still wishing to wake up and it all be a horrid dream!”

Poppy Jo Murray, added: “My thoughts and love are with you and all your family.” And Nicola Cooper wrote: “Rest in peace Sam. There is nothing more I could say that hasn’t already been said. You really did affect so many people probably without realising.”

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed the death and said consular assistance was being provided to the family.

The Spanish Civil Guard has launched an investigation into Mr McCaughey's death.
