Potential members discover Rotary Club

Date published: 16 February 2011

Members of the Rotary Club of Middleton entertained prospective members at a Cheese and Wine Evening on Monday (14 February 2011).

The visitors attended to find out more about the club and after a short presentation, to give them an idea of the activities and projects undertaken by the club, the visitors were free to mingle with existing members.

The President of the Rotary Club of Middleton, Janice Powell, said: “The aim was to encourage like minded people to come along and learn about us first hand, a secondary aim was to raise more awareness of the club and what we actually do locally.”

Ms Powell continued: “The four who attended all seemed enthusiastic about Rotary and have indicated they wish to attend further meetings.

“They have temporary membership until the end of March by which time they have to decide if Rotary is for them.”

Membership Services Chairman, Stuart Sawle, said: “It’s always a great joy to meet with visitors in a relaxed atmosphere and to see their reaction to our club programme.

“Some think that all we do is operate the Christmas Float, so this provides a perfect opportunity to tell them of how we help local community groups, how we manage and fulfil our projects in Kenya and Uganda, and how Rotary worldwide is playing such a key role in the eradication of polio.

“Certainly, the feedback we received on the night suggests that we have found some new friends who will join us over coming weeks to decide, for themselves, whether Rotary membership is for them”.
