Safety awareness week

Date published: 15 June 2009

Health workers, fire service, road safety and the police will be at the Middleton Arndale Centre on 25 June to talk to people about different safety issues, as part of National Safety Awareness Week.

Health visitors, staff nurses and nursery nurses will be on hand to give advice and support about child safety.

The community fire team will be promoting fire safety and talking about their free alarms scheme and the road safety team from Rochdale Council will provide guidance on the correct way of using car restraints for children.

“Safety is an issue that affects thousands of children each year,” said Luisa Byrom, a staff nurse from Durnford Street Health Visitors. “We are striving to improve our services to reduce accidental injuries and improve child safety.”

Organiser Sharon Murphy from NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, added: “By having all of the different safety bodies come together we will be able to raise awareness of the main issues people need to be mindful of and answer and questions they may have.”

The teams will be at the Middleton Arndale Centre throughout the day.

There will be lots of freebies up for grabs including safety packs, reflectors, room thermometers and fever scans.
