Heywood’s ready to welcome the Olympic Torch!

The Olympic Torch arrives in Heywood town centre on Saturday 23 June and to celebrate this once in a lifetime event a whole range of fun activities for all the family has been arranged.

A symbol of international peace, the Torch is currently on a tour of the UK which will see it carried by 8,000 inspirational people.

It is due to arrive in the town centre around 3pm.

Cabinet Member for IT, Highway Services, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Jacqueline Beswick, said: “The arrival of the Olympic Torch is something that will be remembered for ever.

“I hope as many people as possible line the streets to cheer the Torchbearers on their way, enjoy the great activities and be part of what promises to be a great day for Heywood.”

The Torch will head to Heywood from Rochdale town centre. It will be carried by Torchbearers along Rochdale Road East from the junction with Crimble Lane and along York Street and Market Street before making its way towards Manchester for an evening celebration.
