Police appeal for witnesses following disturbance in Heywood

Date published: 29 April 2012

At 2.20am on Saturday 28 April 2012, police were called to Dawson Street following a report of a disturbance involving two groups of young men.

Three men were assaulted by a group of men.

Officers found a 43 year-old man had suffered head and facial injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is described as serious, but stable.

A 28-year-old man was also treated for a cut to the head. He has been discharged from hospital.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of serious assault and violent disorder. He remains in police custody.

Offenders are described as 4 white men, aged between late teens to late twenties. They were all casually dressed.

Detective Chief Inspector Lynne Vernon said, “There is no place for this type of behaviour on the streets of Heywood, this level of violence is simply not acceptable and we want to identify those responsible.

“The actions of these men have left their victim in a critical condition. We have identified one of the suspects, but are keen to speak to anyone who might have any information about the other men involved. If you have any information about their identity, please contact the police as soon as possible.

“It was the early hours of the morning, however there were people on their way home from a night out. I am sure someone has seen something, or if you were part of the group involved in the fight and wants to tell us what has happened, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 4646 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
