Heywood goes back to 1940s

Date published: 03 September 2011

The 1940s themed weekend in Heywood began today (Saturday 3 September) and the town has been transformed for a weekend of nostalgia and family fun.

A variety of events and displays, from kitchen and clothing displays to brass bands, street entertainers and charity stalls could be enjoyed today.

A replica full size Spitfire was a popular attraction with people sitting in it for a photo. There was also a Griffon engine, which ran three times during the day, plus a weapons demonstration on the Hill Street car park.

Tomorrow (Sunday 4 September) sees a charities fete in Queen’s Park.
