Replica full size Spitfire at 1940s weekend

Date published: 01 September 2011

A replica full size Spitfire will be a popular attraction at this weekend's 1940s themed weekend in Heywood.

People can sit in for a photo, for £5, which is to go towards building a memorial to all pilots who flew in the war. There will also be a Griffon engine, a sucessor to the mighty Merlin, which is from a mark 9 Spitfire which we will have running three times during the day. Both exhibits will be on the Hill Street car park in the town centre.

Also confirmed is the weapons demonstration on the Hill Street car park around 3pm.

The event will see the town transformed for a weekend of nostalgia and family fun.

Heywood Business Group has teamed up with Heywood Charities Fete Committee to host the weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September.

This year’s event is set to be bigger than ever with a variety of events and displays from kitchen and clothing displays to brass bands, street entertainers and charity stalls on the Saturday and a charities fete on the Sunday in Queen’s Park.
