Heywood woman wins competition to help chosen charity

Date published: 25 February 2011

Heywood resident Peggy Mulongu has won a place on a programme that helps fund UK charities.

The Vodafone World of Difference UK programme has set Ms Mulongu up with the New Step for African Community, where she will spend two months working to support members of the North West’s African community - salary and expenses paid.

The 31-year-old, who works for Rochdale Council, said: “I was simply amazed when I found out that I won a placement; hard to believe that I made it. I am now so excited and I am looking forward to contributing and making a real difference in my chosen charity.”

Ms Mulongu was one of 500 winners chosen from 11,000 applicants from across the UK. She starts her role in March.
