Changes to Heywood bus services

Date published: 27 January 2011

Changes to bus services operating in Heywood will come into force next week.

The 461 bus will now operate between Bury and Heywood only. Other sections of the route which previously went to Rochdale will be served by other bus routes.

The route of the 167 will be revised so that a link between Heywood, Queen’s Park and Bamford is retained.

New services 466, 467 and 468 replace the Rochdale, Cutgate & Bamford to Bury section, operating more direct via Fairfield with increased frequencies from most areas, also serving Greave. These services supplement our existing evening and Sunday services providing a comprehensive full day service, 7 days a week.

A statement on the Rossendale Bus website said: “Since the redevelopment of Bury town centre, we have been experiencing some reliability issues with some services in the area as changes have been made to some road layouts and junctions. Traffic levels have changed throughout the area and we have spent some time monitoring the performance of services and assessing the changes to road layouts.

“We have found it increasingly difficult to ensure the reliability of services which cross Bury town centre, particularly those which pass through the busy junction at Moorgate and through the new shopping area at The Rock. Few passenger journeys are actually made which cross Bury town centre and we have therefore taken the decision to split most cross-Bury services with most services now terminating at the Interchange.”
