Focus on Heywood: Heywood's new starters
Date published: 14 October 2010
As part of Rochdale Online’s Focus on Heywood month we have been visiting schools in Heywood to meet the new reception class children.
With half term coming up it seems that the children are all settling in very well.
In our photo gallery we have reception class photographs from All Souls Church of England Primary School, Harwood Park Country Primary School, Hopwood County Primary School, Our Lady and St Paul’s RC Primary School, St Joseph’s RC Primary School, St Luke’s Church of England Primary School and St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School.
Reception class teacher from All Souls CE Primary School, Kelly McAllister said: “The children all settled in really well within the first couple of weeks. We have been playing friends games and our topic at the moment is ‘Can I tell you about me?’ so we have been talking about what we look like, who we live with and learning about parts of the body too.”
Ms McAllister added: “After half term we will be looking at the things we celebrate like bonfire and Christmas and we also have gymnastics to look forward to.”
Reception teacher Lauren Flitcroft from Harwood Park County Primary School said: “The children have all settled in really well, we are in temporary accommodation at the moment so considering we are in a portable cabin it is going very well – we are looking forward to our new class room in the new year though!”
Children at Harwood Park have been learning more about health and hygiene as part of their topic about the self.
Miss Collinge from St Luke’s Church of England Primary School said: “The children have settled in well. They have all been really good and they are enjoying school life.”
Mrs Connor from St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School said: “We have been learning lots of stories. The children really enjoyed Elma the patch work elephant and they are enjoying the outside area too. They are all enjoying coming to school.”
Mrs Crossley from Hopwood County Primary School said: "The children are all really enjoying themselves. They are loving school and they all have big smiles on their faces when they come in."
