Security man rammed into a door during Heywood robbery

Date published: 02 June 2009

A security guard was assaulted and a substantial amount of cash stolen during a robbery at Heywood’s Somerfield store.

The attack happened on Friday 22 May at around 3.15pm at the store on Middleton Road.

Two offenders wearing dark clothing and balaclavas rammed the security guard’s head into a locked door.

They then threatened to hurt other members of staff and forced them into a secure area of the store where they stole a large amount of money and fled in a silver Nissan Qashqai, which is believed to have false number plates bearing the registration MA57 ABX.

Detective Constable Wayne Hagan, from Rochdale CID, said: "These violent men need to be caught, so it is vital that anyone with information about this robbery comes forward.”

He added: "In stealing such a large amount of money, they also assaulted a security guard and threatened to hurt others if they did not get their way. We need to find these men before they try and strike again so if anyone does have information, please come forward."

Anyone with information should call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4646 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
