Littleborough primary school gets into the Olympic spirit

Date published: 16 July 2012

Pupils at Littleborough Community Primary School embraced the Olympics fever by holding a special sporting event and parade last week.

The excited children were split into class teams to represent 8 participating Olympic countries, from Spain to China, with each led by a team ambassador chosen at random.

Wearing their countries’ flags with pride, the pupils took part in a range of Olympic-themed events for this extra special sports day, with the support of parents and staff alike.

The fun continued as the children held their own Olympic torch parade around the perimeter of the school, fronted by Littleborough-born Andrew O’Donnell, the official Olympic torchbearer of Chorley, and the school band.

As the parade drew to a close, the pupils made their way to the school hall for an awards presentation complete with winners’ podium. Mayor of Rochdale James Garside handed out medals to the winners and congratulated the school on the event.

Office Manager Mrs Harrison said: “The children thought it was fantastic carrying the torch around Littleborough and the community loved it.

“We had 200 parents cheering from the pavements and we’d like to thank the community for their cooperation with the traffic diversions on the day.”
