Do you remember the roads closing 25 years ago?
Date published: 21 May 2012
Twenty five years ago, in the winter of 1986, there was a conductor 'galloping' on National Grid overhead lines (this is when they move up and down with high amplitude) near Littleborough. This caused damage of the lines and was a safety risk to the roads, which were briefly closed.
The National Grid is putting together a document to mitigate any potential future incidents of 'galloping' and wouldnbe interested in hearing any stories/memories of the past instance.
National Grid engineer, Jake Stevens said: "I appreciate that this is a long time ago but there may be some local residents who remember this incident. It is a very rare occurance, so it is likely that if someone witnessed it they will still remember it. Does anyone remember this incident? Any help will be appreciated.
