Fun at the OnBoard race at Hollingworth Lake
Local youngsters finished in second place after eight hours of fun in the sun at Hollingworth Lake last Friday (30 May).
They competed in OnBoard’s first annual endurance race at the Lake in Littleborough and the Hollingworth Lake team came second overall.
OnBoard is a Royal Yachting Association and industry supported grass roots programme which helps young people get started in sailing.
The aim of the endurance race was for youngsters to keep their boats racing around the track for the full eight hours. 53 children took part, forming ten teams from seven different OnBoard Clubs.
Event organiser, the RYA’s Adam McGovern, said: "Overall the day was a fantastic success in perfect conditions.
“Kids had smiles on their faces all day, the only time I saw an unhappy face was when the race was over and the kids couldn’t go sailing again that day.”
