Fatal RTC - Witness Appeal

Traffic officers in Rochdale are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Heywood yesterday evening, Wednesday 19 January. At approximately 8.15pm, a Honda Civic was travelling along Pilsworth Road towards Heywood, near to the junction of Hareshill Road, when it was involved in a collision with a MAN lorry, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The front seat passenger of the Civic, a 19-year-old man from Rochdale, died at the scene. The 18-year-old driver of the car, also from Rochdale, suffered multiple serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in Fairfield General Hospital. No one else was injured as a result of the collision.

Pilsworth Road was closed for approximately six hours while the scene was examined and cleared.

Update: The man who died in a road traffic collision in Heywood, Wednesday 19 January 2005, has been formally identified as Shahbaaz Mohammed. The 18-year-old driver of the Honda remains in a critical condition.
