Rochdale Borough Children’s Services, in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, is taking part in a pilot to encourage lone parents who are currently unemployed and would like to seek work, to try various types of childcare.
Research has shown that many parents are reluctant to return to work due to childcare problems. The childcare tasters will help allay any concerns or fears that parents may have around childcare in general and hopefully encourage them back into employment.
The aim of the scheme is to give parents a free ‘childcare taster’ of up to five days. They can use the five days however they choose. For example, 1 day a week or all 5 days together and we will be encouraging them to try out various types of provision such as childminders, private day nurseries, pre-school playgroups and out of school clubs. All childcare costs will be paid by Rochdale Borough Children’s Services.
Rochdale Borough Children’s Services are holding a Childcare Taster launch at Heywood Market, on 26 November, 10am to 4pm.
Childcare Co-ordinators and Lone Parent Advisors will be available at the launch for all those who book a childcare chat and find out more about the pilot. The scheme is already running in Rochdale and Middleton and has been very successful.
