Competition is hotting up in the search to find Rochdale borough's champion curry chef for 2004.
Rochdale Council is backing the competition this year, building positive relations between the Environmental Health service and the Asian community.
Although the National competition has been running for a number of years, this is only the second year the competition has been run in Rochdale.
Adrian Watson, Rochdale Council's Chief Environmental Health Officer said, "We were very pleased with the level of interest and the standard of food presented during the heats".
During the local heats the chefs had 60 minutes to prepare and cook one main curry dish, one complimentary side dish and a rice or a bread. The chefs were assessed by judges on the taste of the food and also on the standards of hygiene in their premises and their knowledge of food safety.
The Rochdale final takes place on Thursday 2 September at Hopwood Hall College, Rochdale. Chefs from Milnrow, Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale are competing on the day, representing both takeaways and restaurants. The winner of the local final will go to represent the borough at the Greater Manchester Authorities Competition to be held in Bolton in October.
