Date published: 06 September 2015

Alternative rock band Toploader took to the main stage in a highly successful Feel Good Festival line up.

Making their first appearance in Rochdale, the band performed a number of their hits including ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, singer Joseph Washbourn said: “It was really good fun. The crowd were great and everyone really seemed to be having a good time.

“This is our last gig of the festival season and I think we have been pretty much everywhere, but we haven’t been to Rochdale before. The festival is great and the line up has been good. We have done some stuff with The South before and it is nice to go on not as the headline sometimes.”

Toploader are set to work on new material and will be releasing a new album next year.

Kirsty Almeida and The Troubadours made a return to the festival this year after performing back in 2010.

Kirsty said: “It is a really good festival and it is really nice to see people coming together.”

Ska music stars The Uplifters got the crowd up and dancing. For their Rochdale debut, the seven-piece band from Manchester played all waves of Ska music from Prince Buster, The Skatalites and Madness, as well as original songs from their debut album ‘Who Turned The Lights Out’.

Shakedown Stockholm, a dual female-fronted band discovered by BBC Introducing, enjoyed their session. Guitarist Danny said: “Rochdale is great and this festival is big, really big. Our performance was really good.”

Amy-Jo Clough, a late minute replaceent for the previously announced The Renegade Girls, performed a mixture of cover songs and original songs.

Amy-Jo said: “This is the first time I have been here and everyone has been really friendly and it has been nice to see how friendly everyone is. I was approached to get involved and its great because I’m a fan of Toploader and ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ is one of my top five favourite songs.”

Rochdale band The Hotspur Press, winners of the Battle of the Bands competition, opened the main stage. Guitarist and vocalist Dan said: “It was great to be up there and we managed to have a clear sound, which is what we wanted.”
