Shhhh, It's Noise Action Day!

Date published: 26 May 2004

Rochdale Council will be quietly promoting Noise Action Day on Thursday 27 May 2004. The Council is urging people to visit the 'Wall of Wails' on the Butts on Thursday, to have their say about what type of noise they find most annoying.

Barking dogs, DIY enthusiasts, noisy neighbours and industrial noise will be some of the nuisances represented on the wall. Visitors will be invited to vote for what type of noise bothers them the most and to find out what they can do to limit it.

As well as the 'Wall of Wails' there will be many information stands, where people can learn about simple but effective ways to prevent noise problems.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, Heywood Community Conferencing and Rochdale Mediation Services will also be giving information about their services and general advice on tackling noise from noon until 2 o'clock on the Butts.

Visitors to the event will be able to enter a competition to win a pair of cordless headphones. These state-of-the-art headphones allow the wearer to listen to music or the television without disturbing their family, friends and neighbours while moving around their home.

Nicola Rogers, Rochdale Council's Environmental Health Development Manager, said, "Noise really affects people's quality of life. On Noise Action Day, we want people to think about what noise bothers them and also what they can do to reduce the noise they make that could annoy their neighbours."
