Circle’s golden eagles

Date published: 20 July 2015

Circle members with a combined age of 491 reached new heights this week when they enjoyed a skydiving experience at Airkix in Manchester.

With the average age of the party being a little over 70, this was quite an endeavour for all concerned, but showed the spirit of adventure within the group.

The event took place on Tuesday 14 July at Airkix Manchester - an indoor skydiving centre, as part of their Golden Eagles programme.

Clare Soroka, a Circle Member from Wardle, said: "I knew I had to give skydiving a try. I'd often wondered if it was like those dreams where you know you can fly. It was. I would probably never have done it if it hadn't been with Circle. We all encouraged each other too."

Leanne Chorlton, office manager, said: "We have had lots of adventurous activities suggested by our members, and so our Circle Experiences feature was created. In the past we have had a group take a ride in a hot air balloon, and last month some of our members went horse riding. Next month we're off sailing at Hollingworth Lake. It's great to be able to turn member's suggestions into a reality."

Circle Director, Mark Wynn added: “Events such as the skydiving and hot air ballooning turn heads, but it’s our regular events such as meeting up for a brew or going out for a meal that are really making a difference to people’s lives.”

Launched in June 2013, Circle is now in it's third year, working with people from Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood and the Pennine villages. It organises over 25 social events each month, which members access via a monthly calendar.

Circle also has a group of trusted tradesmen and women who offer help and support with small jobs around the house and garden.

Circle is a membership organisation for the over 50s. The group arranges social events and offers practical support for over 500 members.

The skydiving event is part of 'Circle Experiences', a feature that gives members the opportunity to have a go at those more exciting, adventurous activities that they've always wanted to try.
