Date published: 10 June 2015

A 31-year-old man was attacked and had his hand and nose broken and was taken to hospital with a bleed on the brain on Monday (8 June).

The victim was walking to work on Crawford Street, near to lock 49 of the canal, when a man asked him for the time. He then attacked the victim, dragging him to the floor whilst he stole his mobile phone, and kicked him in the head as he left.

The attacker is described as white, with a pale complexion, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in tall, of medium to stocky build and was wearing a pale grey tracksuit with the hood up.

A police spokesperson said: “This was a vicious robbery that left the victim in hospital.

“The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini in blue, I would ask anyone who may have been offered to buy the mobile to call us.

“If you saw the attacker leaving the scene or recognise the description please get in touch.

“I would urge anyone who may have any information about the attack to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8549 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
