Staff from RBS Invoice Finance make over Tudor Court Care Home garden

Date published: 17 May 2015

Staff from RBS Invoice Finance recently offered a helping hand to the staff at Tudor Court Care Home in Heywood to help them make over their communal garden area.

Around 10 staff members went to the home, which is a rehabilitation centre for the elderly, to transform the garden space and bring it up to a better standard.

Work included trimming back the bushes, trees and hedges, clearing out rubbish and leaves, building benches and seats and sanding and re-varnishing old benches. Over 15 plant plots and new hanging baskets were also worked on and the whole area was jet washed.

Kim Hughes, Relationship Manager at RBS Invoice Finance, said: “Tudor Court is close to my heart with my mum working there for over 20 years. She was talking to me one day about how the gardens were in a really bad state and how they didn’t have any funding to bring them back to their best. The residents had nowhere to sit and enjoy the summer and the gardens also form part of the rehabilitation for the residents.

“After speaking with my team we decided that this was something we would love to get involved in and so arranged the day with Heidi Tombling the centre manager.

“The day started lovely with bright sunshine, however, it turned to heavy rain in the afternoon. This didn’t deter us and by the end of the day the gardens looked fabulous with all of the hedges trimmed, litter removed, the whole area jet washed and new tables and chairs assembled. We also managed to plant some lovely flowers to brighten things up.”

Heidi Tombling, Manager of Tudor Court, said: “We’re really grateful for the help we’ve had sprucing up our grounds. The Royal Bank of Scotland team have planted flower beds and borders, tidied up our existing plants and painted garden furniture, as well as assembling new garden furniture.

“We have 23 people here at any one time and our main role is to help rehabilitate them after they have left hospital and prepare them for home. Having welcoming, attractive grounds is important for our residents’ well-being and the makeover has given them a real boost. They’ve taken advantage of the sunny weather to sit out in the grounds this week and they’re really pleased with the results.”

Run by Rochdale Council, Tudor Court is a place for the elderly to attend when they leave hospital after having had an operation. They would typically spend two-three months at the home whilst they recover from their operations whilst receiving physiotherapy and re-integration care into their homes and independent living.
