Recycle your Christmas tree
Date published: 21 December 2007
People across the borough are being encouraged to recycle their real Christmas trees again this year. Around twenty special collection points will be open in the new year so that people can drop their tree off for it to be recycled.
Last year, Rochdale Council recycled 3000 trees, saving 12 tonnes of waste from going to landfill. Recycling points will be open this year from Thursday 3 January until Monday 21 January 2008.
Head of Environmental Management, Peter Cunningham, said: "Recycling your Christmas tree will really help to cut down the massive amount of waste that we put in landfill every year. Not only that but it'll go to a good use as the trees are mulched and turned into compost."
"There are plenty of other things you can do too to make yours a green Christmas - like recycling your cards and all those extra cans and bottles that this time of year brings. Help make the borough cleaner and greener for 2008 by recycling as much as you can."
If you can't get to one of the drop-off sites, contact the council on 0845 226 1800 and we will arrange to come and collect it from outside your house.
