Aged only 13, Alex Lord took on the adults in a badminton tournament and was runner up in both her categories.
The Year 9 student at Whitworth Community High School has been playing badminton since she was seven and is a member of Rochdale Junior and Whitworth Junior Badminton Clubs.
She entered the Robert Heaton Badminton Tournament at Kingsway High School in Rochdale and played almost continuously for four hours in the ladies singles and doubles matches.
Alex, from Whitworth, said: “It was a round robin and so I had to play all of the other competitors and in the final there were three matches.”
She was delighted to do so well, especially as she was up against adult badminton players in both competitions.
The next tournament is at Belle Vue in Manchester later this month and Alex is hoping to be selected to play for Whitworth.
“My dad Alan got me into the sport and my mum Caroline also used to play,” said Alex.
“I train four evenings a week and on a Saturday afternoon and when I am not playing badminton I enjoy running, cycling and swimming.”
Alex hopes to become a maths teacher.
