Littleborough Adopt a Canal group volunteer day

Date published: 09 February 2015

The first volunteer day of the Littleborough Adopt a Canal group went “extremely well” say the organisers.

Eight volunteers and a Canal and River Trust Volunteer Support Worker turned up on Sunday (8 February) to help start transforming the canal area.

The group worked on clearing up the Wharf next to the Halifax Road Canal Bridge.

The group started their work at 10am and finished at around 2pm and were praised by tow-path users who shouted “well done” to them as they passed by.

Group leader, Bob Furnell, said: “We had tremendous fun and it is well worth the people of Littleborough getting involved and seeing the benefits of looking after where they live as well as learning about both the history and wildlife conservation in the area.”

The next volunteer dates are set for Sunday 15 March and Sunday 12 April starting at 10am. From then on until Christmas, the group will meet on the first Sunday of every month beginning from Sunday 3 May.
