Heybrook Primary School win 5-a-side football tournament
Heybrook Primary School took part in the annual IPLCN 5-a-side football tournament which was held at Soccer Factory on Wednesday 5 November.
Heybrook won all of their group matches convincingly with goals from Umar, Yaqoob and Kaif with zero goals being conceded.
In the final, Heybrook faced up against All Saints in what was to be a thrilling encounter.
The game finished 0 – 0, although Heybrook did have a goal disallowed right on the final whistle which only added to the drama.
Straight after came the penalty shootout!
Amazingly, Heybrook missed their first two penalties.
Goalkeeper Abdul Raheem was the team’s saviour by miraculously saving the oppositions next three penalties as well as scoring the winning penalty leading his team to victory.
The winning team was Mohammed Yaqoob, Umar Farooque and Mohammed Mohib from year 5 and Abdul Raheem, Kaif Khan, Almas Khan and Mahdi Choudhury from year 6 Coached by Mr Hussain.
“It was an extremely well organised tournament played at a very high standard so to have won it shows what a fantastic team we have here at Heybrook” said Mr. Hussain, coach of the year 5/6 team.
There were 9 teams in total, Heybrook, Brimrod, Greenbank, Marland Hill, Moorhouse, Spoland, Stanley Road, St Andrews and Springside.
The teams were split in to 2 groups with the winners of each group facing each other in the final. Each match lasted a total of 7 minutes.
