Police News - Rochdale North

Insp Michelle Hughes says: "It has been a busy week again for the Rochdale North Neighbourhood Team.

"Our priorities remain tackling domestic abuse and ensuring victims are getting the best possible help and support and in addition to this our priorities also remain focused tackling burglaries."

The investigation into a serious car crash, Sandy Lane, Rochdale continues; the circumstances of which have been have already been publicised. Three men were arrested for questioning and have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Rochdale North’s most wanted offender, Brett Gleeson (31), wanted for questioning in relation to an allegation of Threats to Kill, was arrested late last week by Lancashire Constabulary, Blackpool.

Gleeson has since been released on bail with conditions pending further enquiries and instructed to re-appear at Bury Custody Office, 1 December 2014.

Another much wanted offender namely Kobir Ali (33) from Rochdale, wanted for questioning in relation to an allegation of kidnapping was arrested 12 November and later charged with the offences of Kidnap – Common Law, Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent and False Imprisonment. Ali was conveyed to Bury and Rochdale Magistrates Court 14 November 2014.

Also this week a man from Rochdale wanted for questioning in relation to an allegation of a domestic related serious assault, handed himself over to the police at Rochdale Police Station on 11 November. The man has been bailed with conditions to re-appear at Bury Custody Office 09/01/15 pending further enquiries.

Burglaries

Rochdale North wards suffered 20 reports of burglaries the past week. These have been fairly evenly spread with the exceptions of Rochdale Central suffering five and Spotland and Falinge, suffering four.

Milkstone and Deeplish = 1

Garage/shed break ins

There has been a slight increase of shed and garage breaks this past week, Rochdale Central suffering two.

Rochdale Town Centre = 1
Spotland and Falinge = 1
Milkstone and Deeplish = 0

Dark Nights

"Officers remain dedicated to the ‘Dark Nights’ operation and are working tirelessly to capture and keep burglars at bay.

"We have been targeting offenders and focussing on ways to prevent offences taking place.

"We are undertaking daily checks on suspects and giving attention to the hot-spot areas"

"One thing we have noted is a number of burglaries taking place due to insecurity and homes left in darkness."
