Rochdale's MP Simon Danczuk recently joined Rochdale's Short term Assessment and Re-enablement service (STARS) in Smithybridge and Littleborough to see how support workers are helping older and disabled people continue to live at home.
Mr Danczuk said it was a valuable service because the overwhelming majority of people say care in their own home is their preferred choice as they get older.
"I learnt what an important job these support workers do and I was really pleased to join them out and about in Rochdale," he said. "They're helping people get back on their feet and we need to ensure that dignity and independence continue to guide our health and social care services."
The service is for people who have had a visit in the last 24 hours from their GP or have been seen in Accident & Emergency to ensure that there is no medical reason for their sudden deterioration in health. Or it could be where their main carer's own health and ability to carry on caring has suddenly broken down.
