Rochdale GCSE results rise faster than national average

More than 2,200 students from secondary schools in Rochdale are celebrating their hard work today, as provisional GCSE results suggest they are improving at a faster rate than the national average.

Provisional figures suggest that the number of Rochdale students achieving five A*-C grades including English and Mathematics rose to 56.8% this year, up by 1.6% compared to 2013, more than double the provisional national growth rate of 0.7%.

More than a thousand Rochdale students achieved at least two Science GCSEs at A*-C, and more than 750 students achieved A*-C in at least one Modern Foreign Language, an increase of 7% from last year. In addition, more than 300 students achieved the English Baccalaureate.

Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “This year’s GCSE results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of Rochdale’s young people. Rochdale’s 2014 GCSE students can be justifiably proud of their achievements, and the borough is proud of them. We also remain committed to raising standards and expectations for all our young people, and this year’s results show progress towards achieving this.”
