Work pays for Littleborough pensioner

Date published: 14 August 2014

A Littleborough pensioner has changed her life by going back to work. Corinne Stanton, 61, was worried about her pension after a financial adviser warned her that she had put too little money away towards her pension from her job.

Corinne said: “I worked out that I needed about £50-£100 more a week on top of what I had saved to have a reasonable life on my pension so I decided that I needed to do something about it.”

To make the necessary changes needed Corinne decided to do some Avon work selling products door-to-door.

She added: “I started selling for Avon door-to-door and did that for two weeks and found that I really enjoyed it. I liked the flexibility of the job and liked that I could do work for them as and when I needed to.”

After selling door-to-door, Corinne moved on to recruit people for her own team and went on to recruit eight sellers. As she has progressed, Corinne has recruited over 700 sellers to her team all within a local area and now works to support those sellers.

“I didn’t want to be travelling far and wide so I decided that I could do this and help people who are about half an hour away from me. That way I can be there for them when they need help,” said Corinne.

Now having produced a better income and earned the money needed to top up her pension, Corinne believes that she did the right thing. She said: “It is fantastic and I love doing it. By supporting the team and encouraging people with their work, I can share in other people’s success and that is brilliant. It is great to help people who need it.”

Since starting back at work Corinne has been able to do the things she was unable to do before.

“I would tell anyone who was thinking of going back to work to do it. I have been able to buy a property locally and have been able to buy a property in Spain that we can visit. It has also provided stability for my family and has really changed our lives,” said Corinne.
