Date published: 12 August 2014
The annual Freehold Festival Mela celebrated its 40th year on Saturday 2 August.
King Street North was lined with local residents who came together for the festival, despite the wet weather.
The Mayor of Rochdale, Carol Wardle, attended the event and cut the cake.
Mohammed Salim said: “The festival mela was a huge success. The visitors enjoyed and loved the event.”
The festival held lots of different workshops for the children and adults including Skylight Circus, Samba Drums and St Ann’s morris dancers.
Vsitors were also treated to funfair rides, food stalls, toy stalls, face painting and mehndi.
Mr Salim said: “It was a most memorable, enjoyable day for the community that embraced diversity cohesion. The smiling faces tell the story of the success of the event.”
